    Description

    A 4 volume set of J. G. Wood's prolific writings on various subsets of natural history.

    Published between 1882 and 1887, this set includes first editions of 'Wild Animals of the Bible', and 'The Branch Builders and Miscellanea'.

    Decorated with charming, and scarce pictorial boards, gilt spine designs and page edges.

    Inscriptions and bookplates to the endpapers, charting previous years spent educating and entertaining.

    Each title contains a frontispiece, the set containing a total of 5 further monochrome plates, and frequent captivating vignette illustrations.

    Condition

    Bound in their original cloth. Externally, smart, with shelf wear. Wear to vol 2 spine tips. The odd marks to boards. Age toning to endpapers. Tear to vol 1 rear pastedown. Discolouration to boards of vol 2 and 4. Inscriptions to endpapers of vol 2 and 3, and to half-title of vol 1. Bookplate to front paste down vol 4. Hinge weaknesses. Internally, firmly bound, slight straining. Loose tissue guard in vol 1. Occasional handling marks, infrequent spotting. Stain to vol 2 title page and front blanks, and closed tear to interior page. Evidence of occasional mending of page tear. Pages overall bright and clean.
