Description

Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce, With Dustwrapper

A scarce novella by Sheridan Le Fanu.

In the original unclipped dust wrapper.

Under the title 'Some Account of the Latter Days of the Hon. Richard Marston, of Dunoran', this novella was first serialised in the 'Dublin University Magazine' from April to June 1848. Subsequently, Le Fanu published a shortened and diluted version of the tale as 'The Evil Guest' in an 1851 anthology. After that, he expanded that tale into the three-volume novel version in 1868, titled 'A Lost Name'. In all of these revisions the text lost much of what it had been originally. This edition contains the direct serialisation from 1848, thus the purest form of the tale.

The novella is set on a ramshackle Irish country estate, and follows its morose and moneyless owner, Richard Marston, alongside his shunned wife, and their children. Into the scene enters a cousin of Marston, a man shrouded in mystery, who brings murder to the estate,

Edited by Albert Power.
