What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper
First edition, first impression. Illustrated throughout with colour and black-and-white images. Laden by works of art acquired by young British travellers in the Grand Tour, the British merchant ship Westmorland sailed from the Italian port of Livorno before being captured by French naval vessels and escorted to Malaga, in 1779. This is the history of those treasures and their purchase by King Carlos III of Spain and their survival in the Real Academia's archives. Edited by Maria Dolores Sanchez-Jauregui, an American art curator and historian, and Scott Wilcox, an American art historian and professor at Yale University. With contributions from many eminent historians.
