This memoir recounts the period following the publication of The Satanic Verses (1988), when Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa sentencing him to death, forcing the author into years of police protection, secrecy, and displacement. Joseph Anton takes its title from the pseudonym Rushdie used while living under protection, combining the names of Conrad and Chekhov.

In the publisher's original paper-covered boards. Externally, lovely. One or two of the slightest handling marks. Dust wrapper, lovely. "Signed Copy" sticker to front wrap. Slight rubbing to wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Flat signed by the author to the title page.
