First edition. Signed by the author to the front free endpaper, dated December 2012. With an invitation to the Double Crown Dinner of Tuesday 4th December 2012, at which Kindersley spoke on Letters in Stone, along with two copies of the dinner menu and a postcard. The Double Crown Club is a dining club and society of printers, publishers, book designers and illustrators in London. The club was founded in 1924 with the intention of fostering the exchange of ideas on "good printing". Illustrated with colour images throughout, with an alphabet of type-design guides including three folding plates and a large poster folded to the rear pocket. Collated complete. A study on the evolution of the capital letterform, focused on the thinking behind the designing and cutting of the classic Roman capital letterform and the philosophy than underpins it in the Cardozo Kindersley Workshop in Cambridge. With commentary on the sixty apprentices that, since the 1940s, have been trained to carve the Roman alphabet in this workshop. Written by Lida Lopes Cardozo Kindersley, a Dutch letter-cutter, typeface designer, author and publisher who runs the Cardozo Kindersley Workshop in Cambridge. She is considered the foremost letter-cutter currently working in the United Kingdom, with her works including the ledger stone for the grave of William Blake at Bunhill Fields and the design of the main gates for the British Library which was a collaboration with her first husband.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped translucent dust wrapper is also excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
