The story is one of Tolkien's three "great tales" set in the First Age of Middle-earth, edited from manuscripts that were originally started in the late 1910s and revised over time.
Beautifully illustrated by Alan Lee, including eight coloured plates, numerous in-text pencil sketches and a folding map to the rear.
