The first edition Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography/Musee de I'Elysee edition, first impression of this work, in the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper. This volume was first published earlier in the same year by W.W. Norton in New York.

Illustrated with two-hundred and fifty examples of Steichen's photography, this volume charts the trajectory of Steichen's career from his early Pictorialist phase, to his years working for Conde Nast as a pioneer of fashion photography, to his directorship of photography at the Museum of Modern Art.

This volume includes Steichen's portraits of figures including Gary Cooper, Marlene Dietrich, and Sir Winston Churchill.

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, fine. Dust wrapper in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
