The book won the 2004 John Newbery Medal, among many other awards and nominations, making children's book author Kate DiCamillo one of only seven authors to have won two Newbery Medals, the second being for similar work Flora & Ulysses. DiCamillo has sold over 35 million copies of her books worldwide. This text was adapted into a film in 2008.
