Sixth printing. Illustrated with A colour frontispiece, twenty-two colour plates, and numerous decorations. Collated complete. A collection of the fables attributed to Aesop, a Greek fabulist and storyteller noted for his tales characterized by anthropomorphic animal characters. Many of the tales credited to him were gathered across the centuries and in many languages in a storytelling tradition that continues to this day. Illustrated by Edward Julius Detmold, a prolific Victorian and early twentieth-century book illustrator best known for his work with his twin brother Charles Maurice Detmold.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent. With the original paper covered slip case, in very smart condition with minor wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
