Brian Alderson’s commentary represents a comprehensive and meticulously researched bibliography of Edward Ardizzone’s career, from his first illustrated books in 1929 through to 1970. 

Edward Jeffrey Irving Ardizzone (1900–1979), who occasionally signed his work as "DIZ," was a celebrated British painter, printmaker, and official war artist during the Second World War. He is perhaps best known for his gently humorous and humanistic illustrations in children's literature, including his beloved Little Tim series.
