First edition. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, four colour plates, and numerous in-text images. Collated complete. A bibliographical study of Edward Jeffrey Irving Ardizzone, who sometimes signed his work "DIZ", a British painter, printmaker and war artist, and the author and illustrator of books, many of them for children. Ardizzone won the inaugural Kate Greenaway Medal from the Library Association for the year's best children's book illustration by a British subject. Written by Brian Alderson, an English author, translator, critic, and children's book historian.

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
