What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Signed, With Dustwrapper

First edition. Signed by the author to the title page. Illustrated throughout. The Thousand Mile Trial started in London in April 1900 and followed a route that included Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Carlisle, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds and Nottingham before returning to the capital in May. At various locations along the route the entrants and their machines were tested in speed trials and a number of hill-climbs. For many ordinary people, it would be their first encounter with the motor car. This book tells the story of the conception and execution of a bold plan which was the foundation stone for the British Motor Industry. Using reports and photographs of the day, this work examines the effects those motoring pioneers have achieved. Written and compiled by Elizabeth Bennett, a British journalist and photographer, and the editor of Veteran Car.
