First edition. Limited to four hundred and fifty copies. This copy is signed and inscribed by the author to the limitation page, with a message that reads: "you are the true lovers of books & letters - with friendship of many years", dated 10.8.1999. Illustrated with a frontispiece and ninety-six in-text images. A detailed history of the Greenwood Press, a small book printing press based in the San Francisco Bay Area. This work is a document of the apprentice learning to become the journeyman printer, exploring the influences that shaped the final formats of printing and typesetting at the Greenwood Press, with chapters on correspondence, criticisms, reflections, friendships, books and pamphlets, and more. Written by Jack Werner Stauffacher, an American printer, typographer, educator, and fine book publisher. He was the owner and operator of the Greenwood Press. Bibliography from Glenn Humphreys, an American writer.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is very smart with the odd small mark to the panel and a small closed tear to the rear panel. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
