Written by English novelist, essayist and screenwriter, Martin Amis, who is known for his fiction novels and for his memoirs. Amis's work surrounds the excesses of modern Western society and was named as one of The Times's fifty greatest British writers since 1945.

'Night Train' is a work of detective fiction, with Detective Mike Hoolihan investigating the apparent suicide of a colleague's daughter. Similar to Amis's other works, this novel features a symbolic pairing of two characters, being Detective Hoolihan and his police colleague, Jennifer Rockwell.
