This catalogue accompanied the 1997 exhibitions of Davie’s drawings at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh, from the 8th February to 20th April, and subsequently at the University of Brighton Gallery during the Brighton Festival, which ran from the 3rd to the 31st of May.
This is a profusely illustrated volume of Davie’s drawings, with 155 illustrations across double sided monochrome and colour plates. Collated, complete.
Alan Davie (1920–2014) was a prolific Scottish painter and musician renowned for his intuitive, symbol-laden abstraction informed by myths, multiple cultural traditions, and jazz improvisation.
Condition
In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Slight lifting to coloured paper and glue residue to endpapers, slight damage sustained from tape of protective brodart. Bery slight rubbing and fading to extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean throughout.
