This volume is a richly illustrated children’s book adaptation of the medieval beast-epic centered on Reynard the Fox. Originally a cycle of medieval allegorical fables originating in the 12th century, this tale centers anthropomorphic animals in a satirical portrayal of human society. The cunning fox, Reynard, a popular trickster character in European literature, outwits the other animals in a kingdom presided over by a lion-king.
Alain Vaes, interprets the legendary trickster fox in a visually compelling format suited for a younger audience. With numerous full page colour illustrations, five of which are double-page spread, alongside many in-text illustrations. Collated, complete.
Alain Vaes, having worked as a ballet costume and set designer, brings a unique visual flair to this adaptation of the classic fable, notable for their dramatic and sometimes humorous realism.
