What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Very Scarce, With Slipcase

The first edition of this very scarce work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original clothbound slipcase.

Illustrated with a tipped-in plate to the frontispiece. Collated, complete.

A lovely copy of John Law's previously unpublished Essay on a Land Bank, edited with an introduction and commentary by Antoin E. Murphy.

This essay is Law's first attempt at conceptualising his financial ideas. In this work, he explains how paper backed by land acts could act as a new form of money. As Law was a fugitive from English justice at this time, he gave his proposal to the Lord High Treasurer, Sydney Godolphin, without success. He would then go on to publish his famous essay Money and Trade Considered (1705).

Also included in this work is a copy of the 1705 Act for a Land Mint, an appendix, a select bibliography, and an index.

Condition
