What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated

A collection of newsletters and bulletins, as well as one publication, in the publisher's original pictorial paper wraps.

The Sudan Archaeological Research Society (SARS) is a registered British charity based in London, founded in 1991 to study the history and culture of Sudan. The society has surveyed and excavated numerous archaeological sites across Sudan.

Between 1991 and 1996, the Society published a biannual newsletter with information about its work, including articles, summaries of lectures, forthcoming events, and annual reports. In this set are numbers 4 to 11 of this newsletter, published from June 1993 to November 1996.

In 1996, the newsletter was replaced by an annual peer-reviewed journal, called Sudan & Nubia, concentrating on recent archaeological fieldwork and research in Sudan. This journal features interesting information on their surveys, including the Merowe Dam Archaeological Salvage Project. Illustrated with glossy colour and black-and-white illustrations throughout. This set includes Bulletins 1 to 24 of the journal, published from 1997 to 2020, except for Bulletin 22, published in 2018.

The newsletters and bulletins were edited by Derek A. Welsby. Along with Vivian Davies, he also edited the additional publication in this set: Uncovering Ancient Sudan: A Decade of Discovery by The Sudan Archaeological Research Society (2002).
