John Updike was an American novelist, poet and short-story writer who is most famous for his 'Rabbit' series, with two volumes earning him the Pulitzer Prize.

The entirety of this set comprises the following titles:

'Marry Me: A Romance' (1993) - Two married households - the Conants and the Mathiases - meet and entwine. Many critics argue that this is Updike's best written of his longer fiction, with his most sympathetic portraits of women.

'Pigeon Feathers and Other Stories' (1993) - Updike's second collection of short stories, including 'Wife-Wooing' and 'A&P'.

'A Month of Sundays' (1993) - Updike's seventh novel which concerns a month of seven days, a month of enforced rest and recreation.

'Bech at Bay: A Quasi-Novel' (1999) - The final volume in Updike's mock-heroic trilogy about the Jewish American writer Henry Bech.

'The Early Stories 1953-1975' (2004) - This volume collects much of his short stories written from the beginning of his writing career until 1975. The majority of the stories were originally published in The New Yorker magazine.
