This is a biography and critical study that uses Kilvert’s diaries, local archival sources, and Lockwood’s knowledge of the period and region to present a fuller picture of Francis Kilvert.
Francis Kilvert (1840–1879) was an Anglican clergyman whose diaries offer detailed snapshots of rural life, nature, daily routines, human relationships, and the changing social landscape in Victorian Britain.
David Lockwood was a Welsh clergyman, local historian, and vice-president of the Kilvert Society, who devoted years to researching Francis Kilvert’s life and writings in the region known as “Kilvert Country.”

Rebound in a quarter calf binding with marbled paper boards, bound by Ipsley Bindery. Externally, lovely. Very slight rubbing to extremities and boards. Very minor cracking to extremities of joints. One or two of the slightest handling marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Author's inscription to title page.
