Illustrated with twenty-five colour plates with the original patterned tissue guards. Collated complete. A detailed study into the the natural history and conservation of these species of game birds, including the Grey Partridge, the Pheasant, the Ptarmigan, the Woodcock, and the Jack Snipe, amongst others. Being a presentation of the finest watercolours of the artist, alongside commentary on the habits, plumage, and habitats of these birds. Produced and illustrated by John Cyril Harrison, an English artist noted for his bird drawings. Following the Great War, he studied art at the Slade School of Art, sketched bird life, and learnt anatomy from the practice of taxidermy. With text from Colin McKelvie, a British naturalist, ornithologist, and conservationist. Includes a memoir of the author from the Honourable Aylmer Tryon of Durnford in the County of Wiltshire

In the original half morocco with velvet covered boards. Externally, excellent. Original paper covered slip case is very smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
