The first edition of this work by Edwin Freshfield. A very scarce copy. Comprising a series of photographs taken by the author to illustrate his other books on the communion plate in the parish churches of the City of London, the county of London, and the county of Middlesex.
The author's presentation copy, inscribed and signed on the front free endpaper 'Norah Taylor - from his friend.'
Opening with a group of plate exhibited at Merchant Taylors' Hall, and following with a pre-reformation chalice group and twelve post-reformation cups to illustrate the different styles used during the last centuries. With pictures of sword stands, cups, mediaeval patents, dishes, and more. With sixty-six full page plates.
Condition
In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. The author's presentation copy, inscribed and signed on the front free endpaper 'Norah Taylor - from his friend.' With a small library stamp tot he front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Illustrated with sixty-six full page plates.
