A very uncommon first edition copy of Wood's 1886 publication, bound its in original red cloth, with gilt page edges.
Decorated by a gilt motif of two Oyster Catchers to front board, parson-naturalist J. G. Wood's 'Handy Natural History' is one of many of his extensive titles that highlight the passion for which he gave up his career as a curate.
Features a monochrome frontispiece, and 224 beautiful vignette illustrations.
Includes prize-giving bookplate for a Hector H. Ganatt to the front pastedown, awarded by the Northampton School of Science 1890.
Condition
Bound in original red cloth Externally, very smart. Fading to spine. slight weakness to hinges. Age toning to endpapers. Shelf wear. Prize-giving bookplate to front paste down. Internally, firmly bound, very occasional strain. Spotting to tissue paper sheet protecting frontispiece. Pages bright and clean.
