Most famous for his groundbreaking 'The Natural History of Selborne', Gilbert White is often credited as the founding father of natural history, inspiring future great naturalists like David Attenborough. In his Journals, White documents his horticultural process with meticulous detail, as well as the day to day cycle of the natural world that surrounded him.
Volume 1's main focus is on White's 'Garden Kalendar' (1751-67), in which he documents his horticultural process with meticulous detail, as well as his observations in his 1766 'Flora Selborniensis'. The end of Volume 1, as well as Volume 2 and 3, focuses on his 'Naturalist's Journal' (1768-73), and the remainder of his natural observations until his death in 1793.
Alongside White's journal entries, Roberts draws lovely pen and ink illustrations of White's fascinating observations and idyllic surroundings.
