This work is a facsimile of the first ever Rupert Annual, published originally in 1936, with all of Alfred Bestall's charming illustrations of Rupert and his friends. Rupert Bear is a popular children's comic strip character created originally by Mary Tourtel and taken over by Alfred Bestall in 1935. The comic strip first appeared in the Daily Express in 1920, intended to drive sales and beat their rivals such as the Daily Mail. The work was first published as an annual in 1936, with this being a replica of that important work.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper and wrap around band. Externally lovely. The wrap is excellent with only two very minimal and small closed tears. Internally firmly bound with clean and bright pages. The wrap around is excellent with only the odd spot and slight marks.
