A limited edition, with this being no. 178 of 250 numbered and specially bound copies, flat signed by Murdoch herself.

Murdoch's twenty-second novel, following the story of Edward Baltram and his search for his father. Meanwhile, his stepbrother Stuart Cuno, gives up his studies in search of the "pure" life of an aesthete.

The novel was shortlisted for the Booker prize.

Condition

In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding, with marbled paper covered boards, and with glassine dust wrapper. Externally, fine. Glassine back strip age toned, with closed tear to tail of rear wrap, and losses of paper to the head of front and rear wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age toned, as is common with this work, otherwise clean and bright.
