The novel was shortlisted for the Booker prize.

In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding, with marbled paper covered boards, and with glassine dust wrapper. Externally, fine. Glassine back strip age toned, with closed tear to tail of rear wrap, and losses of paper to the head of front and rear wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age toned, as is common with this work, otherwise clean and bright.
