In the publisher's original green cloth binding with gilt. The Hamsah, also spelled Khamsa, meaning “five poems” or “quintet” in Persian and Arabic, is the magnum opus of Nizami Ganjavi (c.1141-1209), one of the most celebrated poets of the Persian literary canon. The Hamsah has inspired centuries of manuscripts that feature elaborate illuminations or miniatures illustrating the stories within.
This volume is a first edition.
Complete with the original unclipped dust wrapper.
Although there are some English translations, the main text is in Russian with some Uzbek.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, lovely, with the slightest rubbing and bumping to extremities. Bookplate of Francis E. B. Witts to front paste down. Dust wrapper, very smart. Slight soiling, age toning and spotting to edges of wraps, heavier to front joint. One or two spots to the inside. Very slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
