Description

First Edition, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

First edition. A detailed scholarly study into the literature and politics of the age of Nero, a Roman emperor and the final emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, reigning from AD 54 until his death in AD 68. This time produced a comparatively larger body of literature than almost any other era in Roman history. The author studies the interaction of literature, patronage, and political power as well as the methods and techniques writers used to further their own ambitions. Written by J. P. Sullivan, an American professor of classics.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is very smart with minor sunning and the odd small mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
