Description

Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

Two volumes. Written by Elizabeth David, a British cookery writer who strongly influenced the revitalisation of home cookery with articles and books about European cuisines and traditional British dishes. This set contains: An Omelette and a Glass of Wine, 1984. Later edition. The first straightforward anthology of David's work, compiled with the assistance of Jill Norman, a well-regarded British editor and food writer. This volume consists of David's selections from her essays and articles published since 1949 in publications "from the Sunday Times to Nova, from Vogue to the Spectator," and more. Harvest of the Cold Months: The Social History of Ice and Ices, 1994. First edition. With illustrations throughout. Published posthumously, with Jill Norman taking over the completion of the writing. A study that traces the history of ice in the cuisines of Europe from mediaeval times, when it had to be brought from the mountains and kept in ice houses, written with a noticeably more academic tone than previous works.
