'Mantissa' is a novel formed of imaginary dialogue in the narrator's head, between him and the Muse Erato. John Fowles was an influential writer of the twentieth century. His writing was inspired by Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus. He is best known for his novels 'The Magnus' and 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'.
