Facsimile edition of the original 1939 publication. Limited to five hundred copies of which this is number four hundred and twenty-three. A comprehensive bibliography of some six thousand works covering the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries on all manner of cookery and gastronomic themes. With detailed records and information for each entry. Compiled by Katherine Golden Bitting, a food chemist for the United States Department of Agriculture, and the National Canners Association. She was a prolific author on the topic of food preservation and, alongside her husband, donated a significant collection of materials related to cookery to the Library of Congress. The Bitting Collection containing numerous publications on food preparation from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, with many modern food safety practices and techniques resulting directly from research conducted by the couple.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor bumping to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also smart with light wear to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. The odd small closed tear to the panel edges. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Previous owner's bookplate to the front endpaper.
