'Puffball' centres on a young couple who move to the country and wish to have a baby. Their neighbours, through the use of herbs, meddle with this process.
The themes explore the way in which women can defined by their bodies often against their will, and the notion of being at the mercy of biological impulses.
A self-declared feminist, Fay Weldon's list of works frequently touch on women's issues, conflicts and relationships.
