First edition of this collection, with original black-and-white drawings first published in 1899 put into colour by Martina Selway. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, a colour title illustration, and thirty-three colour plates. Collated complete. A collection of seventy-five of the fables attributed to Aesop, a Greek fabulist and storyteller noted for his tales characterized by anthropomorphic animal characters. Many of the tales credited to him were gathered across the centuries and in many languages in a storytelling tradition that continues to this day. Each volume contains two of these classic tales. Illustrated by Percy James Billinghurst, a British book illustrator and designer of book-plates who specialised in animal drawings for children. Put into colour by Martina Selway, an English author and illustrator who has worked for the BBC making children's television.
Condition
In the original pictorial paper covered board. Externally, very smart with light wear and minor sunning to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
