A collection of twenty-four stories written in Middle English between 1387 and 1400, here presented with the lines in standard text to the opposite page of its respective manuscript page. The book presents the tales, which are mostly written in verse, as part of a fictional storytelling contest held by a group of pilgrims travelling together from London to Canterbury to visit the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket at Canterbury Cathedral. Written by Geoffrey Chaucer, an English poet, author, and civil servant who has been called the "father of English literature". Edited by Paul G. Ruggiers, an American literary historian. With introductions by Donald C. Baker, A. I. Doyle and M. B. Parkes. Bound by Christopher Paveley of Canterbury Bookbinders.
