This unique detective novel poses to be a true story, with the author Ernest Borneman writing as Cameron McCabe, a 38-year-old Scotsman who writes about a crucial period of his life, during which several people close to him are murdered.
The identity of the author was a mystery itself, as Gollancz publishing house knew nothing about a Cameron McCabe and, upon releasing this reissue, advertised for his heirs and placed the royalties in a trust fund.
