This volume features 134 illustrations, with numerous plates, including four in color, offering an authoritative analysis of the manuscript known as the Winchester Psalter, or British Library Cotton MS Nero C. iv. First edition, thus. Collated, complete.

Wormald's work is notable for its detailed examination of the manuscript's extensive prefatory miniatures, which depict scenes from the Old Testament, the Life of Christ, and the Last Judgment.

Francis Wormald, CBE, FBA, FSA, was a distinguished British historian and educator who served as Director of the Institute of Historical Research from 1960 to 1967. In 1948, he held the prestigious Sandars Readership in Bibliography at the University of Cambridge.

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, excellent. One or two faint handling marks to rear board. Slight fading, rubbing and bumping to extremities. Dust wrapper very smart. Slight scattered spotting to inside. Slight bumping to extremities resulting in the odd small crease. Very slight age toning to perimeters. Rear hinge slight strained, revealing a centimeter or so of binding cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with on or two spots to fore edge.
