Two volumes. First edition. This set contains: The Book of Flowers, 1973. With one hundred and twenty-six illustrations, forty of which are in colour. Collated complete. A lavish and attractive record of flower illustrations collected for the most part from rare printed books from the period between 1485 and 1850. With a short history of illustrated flower-books and a description of the different types. Written by Alice Margaret Coats, a British watercolor painter, engraver, woodcut artist, and author. The Book of Birds, 1975. With one hundred and forty-two illustrations, forty of which are in colour. Collated complete. A superb record of some of the finest bird illustrations to have appeared up to the present century. With magnificent examples from early manuscripts as well as original watercolour and gouache images which have never before been published. Written by Averil Margaret Lysaght, a New Zealand biologist, science historian, and artist.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor wear to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Original unclipped dust wrappers are also very smart with light wear to the extremities and the odd small closed tear to the head of the spines. Light spotting to the fly leaves. With the original slip cases of brown card, which are very smart with minor wear to the extremities and the odd small mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown with previous owner's bookplate to the front endpaper.
