First edition, second impression. Signed by the author to the title page. Illustrated with three maps and twenty-four images across sixteen plates. Collated complete. An account of the extraordinary expedition to the Jostedals glacier in Norway led by Fiennes. After parachuting down onto the dangerous ice surface, their purpose was to survey the glacier and estimate its rate of movement since the last survey, and to collect specimens of the forms of life that survive in this bleak environment. Written by Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, a British explorer, writer and poet, who holds several endurance records. According to the Guinness Book of World Records in 1984, he was the world's greatest living explorer.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also excellent with minor wear only. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. The odd small spot to the fore-edge.
