A complete two volume set of the poetical works of Thomas Chatterton, an English poet whose precocious talents ended in suicide at 17.
Both volumes include a frontispiece, with Volume I having a further 24 plates, and Volume II having two maps, one of which folding. Collated, complete.
Chatterton was an influence on Romantic artists of the period such as Shelley, Keats, Wordsworth and Coleridge.
The life and death of Chatterton coincided with new widespread awareness of political ideas, individual potentialities, and class differences.
Condition
In publisher's original cloth bindings. In the original unclipped dust wrappers. Externally, excellent. Minor shelf wear to extremities, most significant to the head of the spines. Very faint spotting to boards. Dust wrappers are very smart. Sunning to spines and edges. The odd closed tear with minor chipping. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
