The first edition of this work. Signed by the author to the half-title, 'or 63 Bob. Ralph Steadman. June 69'. Numbered 11/50. With a doodle by the author to the half-title, showing a man read the book on a lectern. Held in the original publisher's unclipped dustwrapper. A humorous satire by Ralph Steadman, being a satire of the 1960s, a parody of numerous events and cultural moments in the decade. A sharp look at the pop culture and politics of the 60s. A section in this work is titled 'Hogarth Schmogarth', and contains a variety of Steadman's reproductions of Hogarth's works. Illustrated profusely throughout. Illustrated and written by Ralph Steadman. Steadman is a Welsh illustrator, who is best known now for his illustrative collaboration with the writer Hunter S. Thompson. His style of illustration is very satirical, with caricatures of politics and society.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. A couple of light marks to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Large tear to the front wrap and to the rear wrap, both of which are repaired to the verso. Small loss to the head of the spine, repaired to the verso. Light discolouration with a few marks to the wraps. Minor edgewear. Pages are bright and clean. Author's inscription and doodle to the half-title.
