First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper
A first edition of this illustrated work on the arts in the court of King James VI. Found in the price-clipped dustwrapper, with four plates, collated and complete. In this interesting work, the Cambridge professor Helena Minnie Shire examines the origins and history of the court-song of renaissance Scotland. Alongside substantial contextualisation of court culture, with detail concerning the costume, dance, and pastimes of courtiers, Shire also studies songs and poems heretofore never analysed, with a particular focus on the poets Alexander Scot and Alexander Montgomerie.
Condition
In the publisher's original blue cloth binding, found in the price-clipped dustwrapper. Very lightly rubbed to the boards, with a little bumping to the tail of the spine. There is a tiny closed tear in the wrap to the top edge of the wrap at the front board, and a small discoloured patch. Internally, firmly bound, with bright and clean pages throughout.
