The 1969 edition of this two-volume bibliography of the works of 19th-century English fiction in the collection of Michael Sadleir, in the publisher's original brown cloth binding.
First published by Cambridge University Press in 1951, this 1969 reprint contains forty-eight monochrome plates across two volumes. Collated, complete.
Volume I provides a detailed bibliographical catalogue with extensive annotations, together with Sadleir's interesting introduction, 'Passages from the Autobiography of a Bibliomaniac.'
Volume II is a bibliographical catalogue of his 'Yellow-back collection', with a section on 'Novelist's Libraries, Standard Novels, the Parlour Library, and other cloth-bound fiction (or part-fiction) series.'
With a dedication to Richard Jennings.
Michael Sadlier (25 December 1888 – 13 December 1957) was a prolific collector with a preference for Gothic Romances.
Condition
In the publisher's original brown cloth binding with blue spine labels. Externally, very smart, with only minimal signs of shelf wear. Handling marks to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, slightly age toned. The odd spot to paste downs.
