Description

Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

The 1969 edition of this two-volume bibliography of the works of 19th-century English fiction in the collection of Michael Sadleir, in the publisher's original brown cloth binding.

First published by Cambridge University Press in 1951, this 1969 reprint contains forty-eight monochrome plates across two volumes. Collated, complete.

Volume I provides a detailed bibliographical catalogue with extensive annotations, together with Sadleir's interesting introduction, 'Passages from the Autobiography of a Bibliomaniac.'

Volume II is a bibliographical catalogue of his 'Yellow-back collection', with a section on 'Novelist's Libraries, Standard Novels, the Parlour Library, and other cloth-bound fiction (or part-fiction) series.'

With a dedication to Richard Jennings.

Michael Sadlier (25 December 1888 – 13 December 1957) was a prolific collector with a preference for Gothic Romances.
