A collection of stories often focused on the isolation of a female protagonist, and the struggles they have with their identity and relationships to their communities.
Two of these stories, First Dark and Ship Island won the O. Henry Award in 1960 and 1966, respectively.

In the original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. In the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent with minor shelf wear to the head and tail of spine. Dust wrapper is very smart with small closed tears to the head of spine and edge wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
