A well-versed guide through the River Frome, nicknamed here by the author as "Hardy's River" after English novelist Thomas Hardy, who describes the river in 'Tess of the d'Ubervilles' and famously drew inspiration from the landscapes of Somerset and the south-west region for fictional literary landscape, Wessex. The author traces the course of the River Frome and describes the places along its course in relation to Hardy’s work.
Written by Monica Hutchings, a prolific author who resided in Sherborne and wrote both fiction and non-fiction works, as well as articles about the West Country.
Illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece and seventeen monochrome plates. Collated, complete.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. With the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with minor shelf wear to the spine head and tail. Dust wrapper is very smart, with mild edge wear and faint scattered damp spots to the wrap. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages.
