Murdoch's novel follows an eccentric Anglican priest, Carel Fisher, who is rector of a church in London that was destroyed during the World War II bombings.

The novel follows Fisher's battle with faith, and the concept of human goodness in a post-religious age, and has been identified as having Gothic themes.

Condition

In the publisher's original paper wraps. Back strip and wrap perimeters lightly age toned, otherwise externally excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Small light tide mark to fore edge of each leaf from half title to page 11, with pages otherwise clean and bright.
