What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding, With Slipcase

First published in 1624, this is the first facsimile edition to feature an introduction from A. L. Rouse, and bibliographical notes from Robert O. Dougan.

In the publisher's original full vellum binding with cloth ties, housed in a cloth covered clamshell box, which is lined in felt.

This is a facsimile of Captain John Smith’s original 1624 work, one of the earliest and most significant narratives of English colonisation in North America. This edition reproduces the original spelling, typography, and woodcut illustrations.

Smith’s text chronicles the early voyages, settlements, and encounters with Indigenous peoples in Virginia and New England, including his famous account of Pocahontas.

The 1966 reprint, part of World Publishing’s 'Bibliotheca Americana' series of historical facsimiles, was likely aimed at historians, students, and collectors, and sought to preserve a key document in the literature of early English America.
