First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper, With Letter

Two volumes from the Yale Editions of the Private Papers of James Boswell, with volume one and four. 

James Boswell was a Scottish biographer, diarist and lawyer who is best known for his biography of his friend Samuel Johnson. 

Volume one contains the correspondence of James Boswell and John Johnston of Grange, edited by Ralph S. Walker (1966). 

Volume four contains the correspondence of James Boswell with David Garrick, Edmund Burke and Edmond Malone, three of the most prominent members of The Club (1986). 

In the original dust wrappers. 

With two letters from Roger Smith at William Heinemann to David Gould and two from David Gould to Roger Smith in relations to these works. 

With a newspaper clipping on Boswell from The Times in 1975.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. In the original dust wrappers, vol i is clipped and vol iv is unclipped, which are very smart with some light fading to the spine of vol i.
