Description

Colour Plates, Illustrated, With Dustwrapper

The first thus edition of these two works in the publisher's original cloth bindings, with the original dust wrappers. The Discovery dust wrapper is price-clipped; the Terra Nova dust wrapper is unclipped.

The diaries of Edward Wilson during the 'Discovery' expedition of 1901 to 1904 and the 'Terra Nova' expedition of 1910 to 1912, offering a fascinating personal insight into these two famous expeditions. They are both illustrated with wonderful reproductions of Wilson's drawings and paintings, many in colour.

Held as one of the great figures of the heroic age of Antarctic exploration, Edward Wilson served as both zoologist and doctor on Scott's Antarctic Expeditions, including on the Terra Nova from 1910; tragically, he was one of the doomed members of the party, dying in his tent alongside Scott. He was considered Scott's closest confidante on the trip.

Diary of the 'Discovery' Expedition to the Antarctic Regions 1901-1904 (1966). Edited from the original manuscript in the Scott Polar Research Institute, Cambridge, by Ann Savours, with a foreword by the Duke of Edinburgh. Illustrated with forty-seven reproductions of Wilson's own watercolour paintings.
Diary of the 'Terra Nova' Expedition 1910-1912 (1972). Edited from the original manuscript in the Scott Polar Research Institute and the British Museum by H. G. R. King. Illustrated with forty-seven reproductions of Wilson's own watercolour paintings.
