A limited edition facsimile edition of 'Den Danske Vitruvius' by Laurids de Thurah, a monumental 18th-century architectural folio, first published in two volumes between 1746 and 1749, illustrated with engraved plates of Danish buildings, including royal castles, churches and city architecture.
Commissioned by King Christian VI, Thurah’s work draws direct inspiration from the British Vitruvius Britannicus, and documents in plan, elevation, and section a wide range of structures.
Volumes I and II are facsimiles of the original work, whole volume III includes 58 plates and ten plans, many of which are folding. This volume also includes valuable documentation about churches and official buildings in Copenhagen.
Collated, complete.
Handsomely bound in half calf, with unclipped dust wrappers, housed in portfolio bindings with cloth ties.
Condition
In the publisher's original half calf bindings with paper covered boards, with unclipped dust wrappers, housed in paper covered portfolios with cloth ties. Externally, excellent, with light spotting to calf portion of bindings. Dust wrappers generally very smart, with closed tears to perimeters and to back strip heads and tails. Portfolios very good, with cloth ties in full working order. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright.
