First UK edition, originally published in the US in 1964. Very scarce edition. A Cool and Lam novel. The distinguished Mr. Homer Breckinridge had been waiting for twenty minutes for Donald Lam to make an appearance. When he finally does arrive, Lam soon realises that this respectable insurance claim is much more sordid and dangerous than it first appears. Written by Erle Stanley Gardner, under the pen name A. A. Fair, an American author and lawyer, best known for the Perry Mason series of legal detective stories.
